“COVER” ILLUSTRATIONS
When a customer in a bookstore scans the books on display, they spend less than a second looking at each cover. In that fleeting moment, the image—not the author’s name, the title, or the publisher—must capture, attract, and stimulate the potential reader’s attention, compelling them to pick up the book. At that point, the image has fulfilled its purpose; it is then up to the text on the book jacket to take over. Yet, the most crucial aspect of a cover is that it must not betray the book; rather, it should respect its theme, atmosphere, and content. Every book is unique, and this distinctiveness shapes and determines the style of its cover image.

Poster Mina – Album “MinacantaLucio”
Despite Mina’s initial vision for this project (“Depict me as a goddess descending a staircase with a tiger on a leash…”), I chose to represent the singer differently.
I kept the concept of the Goddess, the attire, the columns, the offerings, and the incense brazier—but I portrayed her seated, in a meditative state. Before her, a winged cherub clutches an ancient stringed instrument, a symbol of musical inspiration. When Mina saw the image, she asked why the branches featured thorns and buds rather than blossoms. I pointed out that her life had known not only the flowers of public success but also the thorns and sorrows of her private life. She considered this, and for a moment, her face took on the same introspective expression I had captured in my drawing. She sighed and said, in a low voice: “True—you’re right. This is fine.” The poster was accepted.
